Throughout the Inca empire the settlement had multiple functions intended to be models of Cuzco, but on a much smaller scale. At this site you will find an interesting museum with Ethnographic and archeological exhibits. Located in the southern Ecuadorean Andes in Cañar province, the ruins are characterised by perfectly-carved stones held together by natural mortar. The ruins comprise strategic observation points, cemeteries, roads, storage rooms, priests' chambers and a plaza. The most impressive part of the site is the oval-shaped Temple of the Sun, which acted as an important ceremonial and ritual centre for the Cañari-Inca. Accommodation at a local hotel.
