Built in 1580,
and with an entrance lined by countless eucalyptus trees,
La Cienega is one of Ecuador's most prestigious haciendas.
In colonial times it hosted guests such as Alexander von Humboldt
and more recently, several former Ecuadorian presidents have
also stayed here on their travels through the country. Open
to the public as a hotel, La Cienega is now perhaps the finest
hotel in the Cotapaxi province.
